I’ve had cellulite for as long as I can remember. It used to really, really bother me. Why was I the only 15 year old at the beach with my friends with a dimply butt and thighs?
As I’ve gotten older - and I’ve stopped following bikini models on Instagram and started following models like Ashley Graham - I have slowly come to accept that my cellulite is always going to be there. And it’s normal. In fact, 90% of women will experience cellulite at some point in their life. So if it’s normal for most of us, why do we worry about it?
Well, because it’s also normal to have a few hang ups about parts of our bodies too, and wanting to feel like you're at your healthiest. I'm all for moving in the direction of body positivity, which for me is about the ways in which I feel confident - not about what others think of me.
As I mentioned, I know that my cellulite isn’t going to ever disappear completely - and I’m not going to lose sleep over it, or spend thousands of dollars on treatments. In any case, from all the research I’ve done, no single treatment is completely effective.
But as I get closer to my upcoming beach holiday, I wanted ensure I was feeling myself in a pair of bikinis, so I tried a couple of methods for the sake of research and decided to report back.

My 3-Month Routine:

Firstly, I rejoined F45 after my winter hiatus and started going at least 3 times a week. I noticed my cellulite becoming more pronounced when I stopped exercising altogether. Not only is exercise good for the mind, it can also help prevent or reduce the appearance of cellulite.
According to Shape Magazine, another way to help reduce the appearance of dimples is to “make your skin stronger” with treatments that build collagen in the skin. So, I introduced two new products to my routine.
I start by rolling my thighs and butt with the Body attachment from the Lonvitalite Microneedle Derma Roller Face & Body Kit. Skin needling stimulates collagen production and helps to improve skin texture. It also helps skincare products to penetrate further into the skin. What’s great about this kit is that you also get rollers for your face, under eyes and lips.
SkinCeuticals Body Tightening Concentrate
After needling, I use the Skinceuticals Body Tightening Concentrate, a firming cryo-fluid which increases the stimulation of collagen and increases hyaluronic acid production. It contains a peptide consisting of three amino acids that helps stimulate natural moisturising factor to fill skin with volume and helps support skin's structure.

So, What Happened?

I wasn’t expecting for my legs to completely smooth out like a Victoria’s Secret model, nor did I want that kind of result, but I did notice a visible reduction in the depth of the dimples, with the combination of exercise, needling and the concentrate.
My advice if you’re struggling with cellulite? There has to be a certain level of acceptance that it’s completely normal and not something you need to "get rid of". In participating in this experiment, I learnt I feel happier about my body when I’m feeling fit and healthy, regardless of whether I've got cellulite or not - that's my version of being body positive and confident.
